apparently the book doesn't take into account the feminist theorization on rationality and subjectivity. but it does give a fair account of the fan phenomenon in pop culture. some insights the author offers, for instance, the differentiation between fan subjectivity and academic subjectivity, are well grounded and illuminating.

挺难读的,难度的点或许在于一开始的太理论化的想要打破所谓的good fan cultures versus bad fan cultures,以至于最后自己在表达自己的观点的时候,实际本质上也没有摆脱这样的二元立场。有些观点放到现在也确实还是很有见地,当然,总的来说也不失为90年代fan cultures studies的一本索引了。
