这本书的风格有点意思——the author's voice/style comes through very strongly and you'd miss that in the audiobook imo. 本来以为是流水文但是渐入佳境内容层次都渐渐分明了。
“Oh everyone! Oh dear everybody in this whole wide world, we do not know anybody, not even ourselves!”
人生是个谜
主要是writing style比较吸引人,很好follow,其实情节都是家长里短。读过几本作者的其他作品,也都挺喜欢的。
文笔极好。故事和情节都是次要的了
读起来倒是不难,但是无味,整本书也没有结构,就是老太太想到哪写哪。读了五分之一,放弃
其实从写法上来说非常像是短篇小说,很多生活中的动人的细节瞬间,剪切出来很多生活的切片,但是其实人物的性格和发展和情结都不像是长篇小说,很多在脑海中一读之后就很难忘的细节。写法上一方面可以说是坦诚和赤裸裸,但是另一方面也可能是苍白和干瘪,可能是来自作者的力不从心,而非刻意为之。
作者的笔触好refreshing啊 让人也不禁开始畅想in our 60s 生活会是怎样一副光景

看Elizabeth Strout的乐趣是,看着看着就会忘了这是用英语写的,完全感觉不到任何语言障碍。不只是因为她语言朴素,更是因为她从不矫饰,无论表达方式还是感受方式。这本很好地呼应了My Name is Lucy Barton,关于"No one comes from nothing",两代女人以各自的方式跨越种种不可能,自己选择了自己的生活。
